Office Policies
Booking appointments
Appointments can be booked online or by calling 506-849-2504. Please note most appointments are booked for 15-20 minutes which usually allows for the assessment of one major or two minor issues. We do not limit visits to one issue, but we do ask that you let your doctor know at the beginning of the visit if you have multiple concerns so we can prioritize your needs. We may not be able to cover everything in one visit, and you may be asked to book a follow up appointment to ensure all of your concerns get the attention they deserve.
Fit-ins and availability
We do our best to triage visits by urgency. For routine visits, it may be up to 1-3 weeks to obtain an appointment. For this reason, it is important to stay on top of your routine or expected needs, such as medication refills, and plan ahead.
If you have a more urgent issue, please make this known to our office staff and we will do our best to book your appointment sooner. Same-day appointments can also be booked online when availability permits.
Cancellations
We require 24 hours notice for cancellations. There is a no-show fee of $25 for a missed appointment without notice. This includes your first visit.
Preparing for your appointment
Please bring a valid medicare card to all visits. Please bring a list of your current medications.
We do our best to run on time but please come prepared to wait. The nature of medical care means unexpected concerns and urgent issues often come up. We realize it can be frustrating to wait, and we hope you recognize the value in allowing patients extra time when needed.
Prescriptions
A visit is required for all prescription renewals, as this is usually an appropriate interval to reassess the condition being treated. Please ensure you plan ahead and book an appointment for 2-4 weeks before your prescription runs out.
After your visit, please allow 1-2 business days before calling to ask if your prescription was faxed. Non-urgent prescription are sometimes sent at the end of the day or the following day.
Medical education
This is a teaching practice, and we will often have medical learners present. They are members of our healthcare team and will be supervised appropriately. By joining this practice, it is expected that medical learners may participate in your care as appropriate to their level of training. You may decline to have learners participate in your care (and there may be circumstances where learner participation is not appropriate), but we hope that you will see the value in training our next generation!
Forms
If you have a form to be filled out, please let us know when you book your appointment. Please ensure you fill out all of the “to be filled out by applicant” sections. Some forms are quite simple, but others are more complex and can’t be filled out during the visit. In this case you will have to leave the form and pick it up once completed. Please note that it can take several weeks to complete a form, so please plan ahead. There is a fee associated with certain forms.
If you wish to have a disability tax credit form submitted before the end of April, you must bring the form BEFORE March 1 of the same year.
Investigations and results
You will be notified of any abnormal results and appropriate follow-up will be arranged. We generally will not notify you of normal results, but you are always welcome to book a follow-up appointment to review these. Some results are also available to you online through MyHealthNB.
Unnecessary tests, investigation and procedures can be harmful to both individuals and the healthcare system. There is an initiative to help reduce unnecessary testing and interventions in an evidence-based way called Choosing Wisely. We encourage you to check it out at www.choosingwiselycanada.org.
Interaction with staff
It is of the utmost importance that all clinic staff be treated with respect. Harassment, threatening or otherwise rude/inappropriate behaviour toward any physician, staff member, learner, or other patients will not be tolerated and may lead to dismissal from the practice. If you have any concerns about policies or procedures, please bring them to our attention.
Respectful and inclusive environment
This clinic serves people of every sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnicity, ability, financial circumstance, and life history. We hope this will be a space where you feel safe and heard. Discriminatory behaviour or comments of any kind will not be tolerated. We welcome any feedback you may have about how to make the office environment more inclusive.
Please note our office is wheelchair accessible.
